The author studies one-dimensional continuum Ising models with \(1/r^ 2\) long range interaction. He proves that for long range coupling constant \(\alpha>1\) long range order occurs for sufficiently large short range coupling force. There follows the existence of an intermediate phase with slow decay of correlations. The proof is based on the comparison with the discrete Ising model via annealed and quenched site diluted Ising models.
