For convex bodies \(K\), \(L\) in Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^ n\), containing the origin in their interiors, and for real \(p \geq 1\), \(\alpha,\beta \geq 0\), the Firey combination \(\alpha \cdot K+{_ p \beta} \cdot L\) is the convex body defined by \[ h(\alpha \cdot K+ {_ p\beta} \cdot L,\cdot)^ p=\alpha h(K,\cdot)^ p+\beta h(L,\cdot)^ p, \] where \(h\) denotes the support function. For \(p=1\), this is the Minkowski combination, which is basic for the Brunn-Minkowski theory of convex bodies. The extension was introduced by \textit{W. M. Firey} [Math. Scand. 10, 17-24 (1962; Zbl 0188.273)]. In the present work, the author develops an analogue of parts of the Brunn-Minkowski theory based on Firey's combination for arbitrary \(p \geq 1\). For example, \(p\)-analogues of mixed quermassintegrals are defined as first variations of ordinary quermassintegrals with respect to Firey addition and then shown to have an integral representation involving powers of support functions and lower order area measures. These functionals satisfy inequalities similar to the classical ones. The inequalities are applied to a number of uniqueness theorems for convex bodies. Finally, a \(p\)-version of the Minkowski problem is treated.
