The authors consider integral equations of Urysohn type (1) \(u(s)=f(s)+\int^ 1_ 0k\bigl(s,t,u(t)\bigr)dt\), \(0<s<1\). They give some results concerning the existence problem which are based on the principle of topological transversality. The Hammerstein case where \(k(s,t,u)=l(s,t)\cdot g(t,u)\) and \(l(s,t)\) is a symmetric kernel is considered separately. The main results of this paper complement and extend the known investigations of equation (1) with rather easy and sipmle proofs, which are based on the mentioned topological principle.
