      The author generalizes a theorem of \textit{H. Li} and \textit{M. Haltmeier} [SIAM J. Imaging Sci. 11, No. 1, 618--642 (2018; Zbl 1401.65059)]. The main result can be formulated as follows.\N\NTheorem. Let \(I\subseteq {\mathbb R}\) be a real interval, \(k\in {\mathbb N}\) a natural number such that \(k \geq 1\), and \(M: I^k \rightarrow I\) be a continuous and monotonic \(k\)-ary mean which is strict from above, i.e., \(M(x_1, x_2, \dots, x_k) < \max({x_1, x_2, \dots , x_k})\) except in the case that \(x_1 = x_2 = \dots = x_k\). If a sequence \(\varphi: N \rightarrow I\) in the interval \(I\) is such that for any \(n \in {\mathbb N}\) with \(n \geq k\) the condition \(\varphi(n) \leq M(\varphi(n-1), \varphi(n-2), \ldots , \varphi(n-k))\) is fulfilled (upper-bound-property), then the sequence \(\varphi\) is convergent, possibly to \(\inf(I) \in {\mathbb R} \cup {-\infty}\).\N\NCounterexamples for the exceptional cases are given.
