The first part of the paper gives some new characterizations of biregular rings (i.e., rings in which each principal two-sided ideal is generated by a central idempotent). For example, a ring \(R\) is biregular if and only if \(R\) is semiprime and a certain lattice of two-sided ideals of \(R\) (consisting of the prime radicals of finite products of finitely generated ideals) is a Boolean algebra. In the second part, the author shows that the category of ringed spaces of simple rings over compact Hausdorff spaces is isomorphic to the category of ringed spaces of simple rings over Boolean spaces. Thanks to the sheaf representations of \textit{J. Dauns} and \textit{H. K. Hofmann} [Math. Z. 91, 103-123 (1966; Zbl 0178.370)] and \textit{R. S. Pierce} [Modules over commutative regular rings (Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 70, 1967; Zbl 0152.026)], it follows that the category of biregular rings is dual to the category of simple-ringed spaces over compact Hausdorff spaces.
