A new inductive technique is given for the construction of certain kinds of special points in the Čech-Stone compactification \(\beta X\) of \(X\), and the following results are obtained: Theorem 3.1. Let \(X\) be nonempty, with no isolated points, noncompact and first-countable. Then \(X\) has a far point. A collection \({\mathcal C}\) is called \(I\)-hereditarily closure preserving \((I\)-locally finite) if \({\mathcal C}\) admits a linear order \(<\) such that \(\{A \in {\mathcal C} : A<C\}\) is hereditarily closure preserving (locally finite) for each \(C\). Theorem 3.2. A non-pseudocompact space \(X\) has a remote point if any of the following conditions holds (a) \(X\) is normal and has an \(I\)-hereditarily closure preserving \(\pi\)- base; (b) has an \(I\)-locally finite \(\pi\)-base; (c) \(X\) has an \(I\)-hereditarily closure-preserving \(\pi\)-base consisting of clopen sets.
