Let \(A\) be a commutative unital Banach algebra. Denote by \(A'\) and \(\Delta(A)\) the dual and the spectrum (maximal ideal space), respectively, both endowed with the weak \(*\) topology. For \(E\), \(F\) and \(K\) substs of \(A'\), \(\Delta(A)\) and \(A\), respectively, we say that \((E,F,K)\) is GKZ if the following condition holds true. (GKZ) If \(f\) is in \(E\) and for all \(x\in K\) there exists \(m=m_ x\) in \(F\) such that \(f(x)=m(x)\), then \(f\) is in \(F\). We consider the following problem: Under what conditions there exist GKZ triples in which \(F\) or \(K\) are ``small'' sets? Some answers are given in the case when \(A\) possesses a symmetric involution. The problem of the existence of finite Korovkin systems is also considered.
