If \(Q\) is a loop (with the neutral element \(e\)) then we can define two permutations \(L_ a\) and \(R_ a\) on \(Q\) by \(L_ a(x) = ax\) and \(R_ a(x) = xa\) for each \(a\in Q\). Let \(M(Q) = \langle L_ a,R_ a:a\in Q\rangle\) be the multiplication group of \(Q\). The stabilizer of \(e\) is denoted by \(I(Q)\) and we say that \(I(Q)\) is the inner mapping group of \(Q\). If \(Q\) is a group then \(I(Q)\) consists of the inner automorphisms of \(Q\) and it is a well-known fact that if \(I(Q)\) is cyclic then \(Q\) is an abelian group. The authors prove that the same is true for loops. If \(Q\) is a loop and \(I(Q)\) is a cyclic group then \(Q\) is an abelian group. In the proof a very important role is played by the concept of connected transversals. There are proved also some new results about these transversals.
