A Hurewicz-type theorem for the dynamic asymptotic dimension with applications to coarse geometry and dynamics (Q6897941)

This paper establishes a Hurewicz-type theorem for the dynamic asymptotic dimension (DAD), an invariant for group actions on compact spaces introduced by \textit{E. Guentner} et al. in [Astérisque 451, 89 p. (2024; Zbl 1551.19001)]. The main result provides a subadditivity property for DAD under suitable morphisms between group actions.\N\NAs applications, the author shows that DAD is invariant under passing to finite-index subgroups and proves an extension theorem for the DAD of odometer actions associated to group extensions. A key technical connection is established by proving that the DAD of an odometer action equals the asymptotic dimension of the corresponding box space. This allows the translation of results on DAD into results on the asymptotic dimension of box spaces. For instance, it is shown that box spaces of the Baumslag-Solitar groups \(\mathrm{BS}(1,n)\) have asymptotic dimension \(2\) for any sequential filtration, providing examples of finite-dimensional box spaces for groups with exponential growth.
