[For part I see Tôhoku Math. J. 44, No. 3, 305-325 (1992; Zbl 0764.34002).] This paper deals with the differential equation \(w''(z)=w'(z)^ 2+ P(z,w)w'(z) +Q(z,w)\), where \(P\) and \(Q\) are polynomials in \(w\) with meromorphic coefficients. A solution \(w\) is called admissible if the coefficients of \(P\) and \(Q\) are small functions (in the sense of Nevanlinna theory) with respect to \(w\). It is shown that if the above differential equation has an admissible solution \(w\), then \(w\) or \(u=\kappa w'+ \kappa_ 2w^ 2+\kappa_ 1w+\kappa_ 0\) satisfies a first order differential equation of the form \(Q_ 2(z,w)w'(z)^ 2+Q_ 1(z,w)w'(z)+Q_ 0(z,w)=0\). Here \(\kappa\) and the \(\kappa_ j\) are small functions. The result is related to a problem of \textit{N. Steinmetz} [Complex Variables, Theory Appl. 13, No. 1/2, 75-83 (1989; Zbl 0692.30022)].
