The authors give a unified approach to represent a binary relation \(>\) by a utility function. Starting with a strictly positive and finite measure \(\delta\) on \(2^{\mathbb{N}}\) a utility function for a completely ordered set \(X\) with a countable order-dense subset \(D\) can be derived: \(u(x)= \delta(\{k\in \mathbb{N}\mid d_ k\in D,\;d_ k< x\})\). Using this construction, the authors derive e.g. continuous utility functions for partially ordered topological spaces. Finally, the authors derive utility functions for partially ordered topological groups.
