The authors extend previous work dealing with the question which effect algebras can be expressed as unions of their maximal MV-subalgebras, the key reference being [\textit{G. JenĨa}, Order 27, No. 1, 41--61 (2010; Zbl 1193.03084)]. Let \(E\) be an effect algebra and \(S(E)\) its set of sharp elements. Special attention is paid to sharply dominating effect algebras [\textit{S. P. Gudder}, Tatra Mt. Math. Publ. 15, 23--30 (1998; Zbl 0939.03073)], where each \(x\in E\) satisfies \(x=\max\{y\in S(E)\mid y\leq x\}\). The following types of elements are studied in detail: An element \(x\) of an effect algebra is called (i) meager if \(\max\{y\in S(E)\mid y\leq x\}=\{0\}\), (ii) hypermeager if \(\exists y\in E: x\leq y, x\leq y'\) (this is equivalent to the existence of \(x\oplus x\)), (iii) ultrameager if \(\forall y\in S(E), x\leq y: x\leq y\ominus x\).
