A simple recursion rule is given to construct new families of orthogonal wavelets starting from some known wavelets such as Haar, Franklin and Daubechies wavelets. These newly constructed scaling functions and wavelets have exponential decay, and the wavelets converge in \(L^q\) to the Shannon wavelet as the order parameter \(n\) increases. In particular, one of these wavelets corresponds to a symmetric orthogonal scaling function whose time-bandwidth product is near 1/2, which is smaller than those of the Battle-Lemarié, Meyer and Daubechies scaling functions. Examples are given to show its better approximation results. It may be interesting to give its low pass and high pass filters explicitly and to provide more applications in signal processing to test its effectiveness.
