Let \(G\) be a non-compact connected simple Lie group and \(\mathfrak{g}_0\) its Lie algebra, \(\mathfrak{g}\) the complexification of \(\mathfrak{g}_0,\) \(K\) a fixed maximal compact subgroup of \(G.\) Let \(G'\) be a reductive subgroup of \(G\) with its complexified Lie subalgebra \(\mathfrak{g}'\) in \(\mathfrak{g}\) and \(K' = K \cap G\) is maximal compact in \(G'.\) \textit{T. Kobayashi} [Invent. Math. 131, No. 2, 229--256 (1998; Zbl 0907.22016)] defined discretely decomposable \((\mathfrak{g}, K)\) modules as follows:\N\NA \((\mathfrak{g}, K)\) module \(X\) is said to be discretely decomposable as a \((\mathfrak{g}', K')\) module if there exists an increasing filtration \(\{X_i\}_{i \in \mathbb Z^+}\) of \((\mathfrak{g}', K')\) modules such that \(X = \bigcup_{i \in \mathbb Z^+}X_i,\) and each \(X_i\) is of finite length as a \((\mathfrak{g}', K')\) module.\N\NNow, let \(G\) be a non-compact non-complex simple Lie group of type \(F_4,\) i.e., \(G = F_{4(4)}\) or \(F_{4(-20)},\) and \(\Gamma\) a subgroup isomorphic to \((\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z)^n\) in Aut\((G).\) Let \(G^{\Gamma}\) be the fixed points for the action of \(\Gamma\) on \(G.\) Then \(G^\Gamma\) is a reductive subgroup of \(G.\) Let \(\mathfrak{g}^\Gamma\) be the subalgebra of \(\mathfrak{g},\) fixed under the \(\Gamma\) action. Assuming that \(\Gamma\) does not contain any Cartan involution, the author proves that there does not exist an infinite dimensional irreducible \((\mathfrak{g}, K)\) module which is discretely decomposable as a \((\mathfrak{g}^\Gamma, K^\Gamma)\) module.
