If \(T\) is an operator on a Hilbert space \(H\) and \(x \in H\), the orbit of \(x\) under \(T\) is \(O(x,T):=\{T^n(x) : n \in \mathbb{N} \}\) and the scaled orbit of \(T\) is the set \(S(x,T):=\{c T^n(x) : c \in \mathbb{K}, \;n \in \mathbb{N} \}\); here, \(\mathbb{K}\) is the field of real or complex numbers. An operator \(T\) on a Hilbert space \(H\) is called \(n\)-weakly hypercyclic (resp., \(n\)-weakly supercyclic) if it has an orbit (resp., a scaled orbit) that has a dense orthogonal projection onto every \(n\)-dimensional subspace of \(H\). There has been recently a good amount of research on the dynamics of matrices and tuples of matrices, for example, by \textit{G. Costakis, D. Hadjiloucas} and \textit{A. Manoussos} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 365, No. 1, 229--237 (2010; Zbl 1200.47014)]. The following results are proved in the paper under review: (1) There are no \(n\)-weakly hypercyclic matrices on \(\mathbb{K}^n\). The most difficult case is that of \(2 \times 2\) matrices, that requires a deep theorem of Ball. (2) There are no \(2\)-weakly supercyclic matrices on \(\mathbb{C}^n\) for \(n \geq 2\). (3) There are no \(3\)-weakly supercyclic matrices on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) for \(n \geq 3\); and (4) there are \(2\)-weakly supercyclic matrices on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) if and only if \(n\) is even. In the last section, it is shown that there is a real onto isometry on the infinite-dimensional real Hilbert space \(\ell^2_{\mathbb{R}}(\mathbb{N})\) which is \(2\)-weakly supercyclic but not \(3\)-weakly supercyclic.
