Let the Dirichlet space \(D\) be the space of functions analytic on the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\) for which \[ D(f):= {1\over\pi} \int_{\mathbb{D}} |f'(z)|^2\,dA(z)<\infty. \] Then \textit{L. Carleson} [Math. Z. 56, 289--295 (1952; Zbl 0047.07601)] and \textit{H. S. Shapiro} and \textit{A. L. Shields} [MMath. Z. 80, 217--229 (1962; Zbl 0115.06301)] proved that \(\{r_n e^{i\theta_n}\}^\infty_{n=1}\) is a zero set for \(D\) if \[ \sum^\infty_{n=1} (\log 1/(1- r_n))^{-1}<\infty, \] but a complete characterisation of the zero sets is still open. \textit{S. Richter} and \textit{C. Sundberg} [Mich. Math. J. 38, No. 3, 355--379 (1991; Zbl 0768.30040); J. Oper. Theory 28, No. 1, 167--186 (1992; Zbl 0810.46057)] introduced the space \(D(\mu)\) of functions analytic in \(\mathbb{D}\) with \[ D_\mu(f):= \int_{\mathbb{D}} |f'(z)|^2\,P\mu(z)\,dA(z)< \infty, \] where \[ P\mu(z)= \int_{\mathbb{T}}\frac{1- |z|^2}{|e''- z|^2}\,d\mu(e^{it}); \] this is a Hilbert space with norm \(\| f\|^2_\mu=\| f\|^{}_2+ D_\mu(f)\). The author studies the zero sets \(\{z_n\}^\infty_1\) of functions in \(D(\mu)\) when \(\mu\) is a countable sum of Dirac measures \(\mu= \sum_{n\geq 1} c_n\delta_{\zeta_n}\), where \(\{\zeta_n\}^\infty_1\subset\mathbb{T}\); here the zero sets must satisfy the Blaschke condition \(\sum_{n\geq 1}(1-|z_n|)<\infty\), since \(D(\mu)\subset H^2\) . The author characterises the measures \(\mu= \sum_{n\geq 1} c^{}_n\delta_{\zeta_n}\) for which the Blaschke condition is both necessary and sufficient; and proves that, given a sequence \(\{\zeta_n\}^\infty_1\subset\mathbb{T}\), it is always possible to distribute a mass on \(\{\zeta_n\}^\infty_1\) such that the Blaschke condition is necessary and sufficient for a zero sequence in \(D(\mu)\).
