The paper deals with the weak-\(L^1\) boundedness of the centered maximal Hardy-Littewood operator \(M\) on the hyperbolic spaces \(\mathbb{H}^n=\mathbb{R}^+\times \mathbb{R}^{n-1}\). The main result is the following: there is a constant \(L>0\) such that for any \(n\geq 2\), \[ \|M f\|_{L^{1,\infty}} \leq L(n \log n) \|f\|_1, \;\;f\in L^1(\mathbb{H}^n). \] This estimate which is well known for a wide class of metric spaces satisfying the doubling property for the measure, cannot be applied in the case \(\mathbb{H}^n\) since it has an exponential growth of the volume. In particular, for the proof of the main result, the method used by \textit{J. O. Strömberg} [Ann. Math. (2) 114, 115--126 (1981; Zbl 0472.43010)] is valid here for the case where \(d(g,g')\geq \alpha(n)\to +\infty\) with \( g \neq g' \in B(g,h)\) for some \(h>0\).
