The author considers the abstract inhomogeneous equation \[ \partial_t u(t,x) + \mathcal{A}(x,D)u(t,x) = f(t,x) \] subject to the initial value \(u(0,x) = u_0(x)\) and periodic boundary conditions, where \(\mathcal{A}(\cdot, D)\) is a differential operator of order \(2m\) with variable coefficients. In the main result continuous maximal regularity for the problem in the setting of periodic little-Hölder spaces is shown. We give a short outline of how this result is established. As a first step it is shown that the constant coefficient differential operator \(-bD^{2m}\) generates an analytic semigroup on the periodic little-Hölder space \(h^{\alpha}(\mathbb{T})\) with domain \(h^{2m + \alpha}(\mathbb{T})\) by employing a slight modification of a Fourier multiplier theorem going back to \textit{W. Arendt} and \textit{S. Bu} [Math. Z. 240, No. 2, 311--343 (2002; Zbl 1018.47008)]. Then, the generation of an analytic semigroup for the general case of a uniformly elliptic differential operator with little-Hölder continuous coefficients is treated via localization and perturbation arguments. The continuous maximal regularity result is then deduced from a theorem by \textit{G. da Prato} and \textit{P. Grisvard} [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 120, 329--396 (1979; Zbl 0471.35036)] and \textit{S. B. Angenent} [Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A 115, No. 1--2, 91--107 (1990; Zbl 0723.34047)]. In the last section it is shown that the techniques and results generalize with slight modifications to the vector-valued setting.
