This paper is mainly concerned with the existence of nonnegative and nontrivial solutions for the following integral equation: \[ u(t)=h(t)+\int_a^b G(t,s)f(s,u(s),u'(s))ds,\quad t\in [a,b]. \] The author also applies the main results to a second-order boundary value problem and a fourth-order boundary value problem.
