The authors consider hypersurfaces immersed into the canonical 4D Euclidean sphere \(S^4\), with their mean curvature vector field \(H\) satisfying \(\square H= \lambda H\) . Here, \(\square\) is the Cheng-Yau operator of these hypersurfaces. When \(\lambda\) is a real constant, then these hypersurfaces are (modulo a rigid motion of \(S^4\)) open pieces of 3-dimensional great spheres, 3-dimensional small spheres or the Clifford torus.
