Circular conical shells of an elastic material subjected to the static lateral pressure are studied with the assumption of axial symmetry. The circular conical shell with ring stiffeners is treated as a shell with piecewise constant wall thickness. The problem of determination of optimal locations of ring stiffeners is solved with help of optimal control. The case of the shell with a single circular rib is treated in greater detail. Numerical results are obtained. The optimal position of the stiffener is established.
