It is well known that a function \(f\in L^{2}\left( B_{\mathrm{Euc}}\left( 0,1\right) \right) \) with vanishing average can be expressed as the divergence of a vector field \(F\in L^{2}\left( B_{\mathrm{Euc}}\left( 0,1\right) \right) ^{n}\)\ abiding by\N\[\N\left\Vert F\right\Vert _{L^{2}\left( B_{\mathrm{Euc}}\left( 0,1\right) \right) ^{n}}\leq C\left\Vert f\right\Vert _{L^{2}\left( B_{\mathrm{Euc} }\left( 0,1\right) \right).}\N\]\NMichael Cowling (2024, private communication to the authors) raised the question whether a similar result holds in Heisenberg groups, which can be rephrased in terms of Sobolev inequalities for differential forms in the Rumin complex \(\left( E_{0}^{\ast},d_{c}\right) \).\N\N\textit{A. Baldi} et al. [J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 21, No. 3, 869--920 (2022; Zbl 1497.58001)] studied Sobolev inequalities for the Rumin complex in Heisenberg groups, only to fail to cover the case of volume forms. This paper aims to fill this gap by providing an affirmative answer to Cowling's question. The results in this paper are formulated in the more general setting of Carnot groups, and the \(L^{2}\)-norms are replaced by any suitable \(L^{p}\)-norms.
