The paper deals with an equivalence of multidimensional systems, an important research problem in the multidimensional system theory. A multidimensional system can be represented by a multivariate polynomial matrix, so the equivalence of systems is closely related to the equivalence of multivariate polynomial matrices. The equivalence problem has been solved for univariate polynomial matrices but the problem is still open for multivariate polynomial matrices. \textit{X. Zheng} et al. [J. Syst. Sci. Complex. 36, No. 1, 77--95 (2023; Zbl 1512.15011)] generalized some known results and gave necessary and sufficient conditions under which a square matrix is equivalent to its Smith form.\N\NIn this paper, the above result is further partly generalized from the case of two variables to that of \(n\) variables. The authors investigate equivalence of square multivariate polynomial matrices whose determinants are some power of a univariate irreducible polynomial, give necessary and sufficient conditions for this equivalence and present an algorithm to reduce a class of multivariate polynomial matrices to their Smith forms. The Suslin stability theorem plays an important role instead of the Smith form theory of univariate polynomial matrices.
