A rational self-map \(f\) of the Riemann sphere \(\hat{\mathbb C}\) is Collet-Eckmann if there exist two constants \(C>0\) and \(\xi>1\) such that \(|(f^n)'\bigl(f(c)\bigr)|>C\xi^n\) for all \(n\in{\mathbb N}\) and any critical point \(c\) of~\(f\) whose orbit contains no other critical points and accumulates on (or is contained in) the Julia set of~\(f\). \textit{J. Graczyk} and \textit{S. Smirnov} [Invent. Math. 133, No. 1, 69--96 (1998; Zbl 0916.30023)] proved that if \(f\) is Collet-Eckmann then all connected components of the Fatou set (the Fatou components) are simply connected and Hölder, that is their Riemann uniformization map extends Hölder at the boundary. The converse is known to be not necessarily true if the Julia set of \(f\) contains two critical points (see [\textit{F. Przytycki} and \textit{S. Rohde}, Ark. Mat. 37, No. 2, 357--371 (1999; Zbl 1034.37026)]); but on the other hand if \(f\) is a polynomial with only one critical point in the Julia set then the Collet-Eckmann condition is equivalent to the Fatou components being Hölder (see [\textit{F. Przytycki}, in: Géométrie complexe et systèmes dynamiques. Colloque en l'honneur d'Adrien Douady à l'occasion du soixantième anniversaire, Orsay, France, du 3 au 8 juillet 1995. Paris: Astérisque. 385--403 (2000; Zbl 0939.37026)]). This paper gives an example of a rational map with only one critical point in its Julia set and whose Fatou components are Hölder, but which is not Collet-Eckmann. The map is of the form \[ f(z)=\left(\frac{z^2+\lambda-1}{2z+\lambda-2}\right)^n, \] where \(n\geq 5\) is an odd integer and \(\lambda\in(1,2)\) depends on~\(n\). During the proof the author also shows that this map has an open interval of buried points in its Julia set, that is points which are not in the boundary of any Fatou component.
