Let \(p\) be a prime and let \(F\) be a finite extension of \(\mathbb{Q}_p\), the field of \(p\)-adic numbers. Let \(\chi\) be an irreducible character of a finite group with values in \(F\). Then \(\chi\) determines an element of the Brauer group \(\operatorname{Br}(F)\) and it is well known that \(\operatorname{Br}(F) \cong \mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z}\). Thus \(\chi\) determines an element of \(\mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z}\), called its Hasse invariant. The paper under review gives formulas for the Hasse invariants of characters in \(p\)-blocks with cyclic defect group. The formulas are in terms of two linear characters of the inertial subgroup associated to \(B\). The author shows that these linear characters are determined by a \(p\)-block with cyclic defect group. The formula is different from the one given by \textit{G. Nebe} [Commun. Algebra 33, No. 3, 689--708 (2005; Zbl 1072.20011)]. The order of one of the linear characters equals the \(p\)-local Schur index of any exceptional \(\chi\in \operatorname{Irr}(B)\). The \(p\)-local Schur index of these characters was computed first by \textit{M. Benard} [Ann. Math. (2) 103, 283--304 (1976; Zbl 0308.20012)].
