This paper deals with the numerical solution parameter dependent initial value problems where the vector valued unknown function \( U = U(t,x) \in {\mathbb R}^{n \times m}\) satisfies a differential system of the type (1) \( \partial_t U = Z'(x) G(U)\), \(t>0\), \(x \in {\mathbb R}\), together with the initial condition \( U(0,x)= U_0(x) \in L^{p}({\mathbb R}) \cap L^{\infty}({\mathbb R})\), \(p \in [1, + \infty)\) and \( Z' \in L^{p}({\mathbb R}) \cap L^{\infty}({\mathbb R})\). The special form of the right hand side of (1), referred to as the geometrical source term, is motivated by applications in some models of hydrogeology and other fields where the low regularity of the field together with nonuniform discretization of the \(x\)-variables imposed by the problem leads the authors to study integral formulations of (1) with finite volume schemes to discretize the \(x\)-variable. The paper is organized as follows: In Section 2, the so-called weighted interfacial discretization to discretize the special geometric source terms of (1) on nonuniform grids is introduced and to study the convergence a mesh dependent internal consistency is used. Some first-order convergence results are given. In Section 3, an extension to second-order discretizations is carried out. Section 4 gives a detailed proof of the convergence of the above first-order proposed schemes. Finally, in Section 5, the results of some numerical experiments with some test problems are presented to illustrate some aspects of the theory.
