Let \(G\) be a finite simple graph and \(I(G)\) its edge ideal. If \(I\subset k[X]\) is a square-free monomial ideal, then \(I^{[s]}\) the \(s-\)th square-free power of \(I\), is the ideal generated by the square-free monomials of \(I^s.\) The paper is dedicated to the study of square-free powers of \(I(G)\), by means of Betti splittings. It is shown that the normalized depth function is non-increasing if \(G\) is a forest. They also compute explicitly the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of \(I(G)^{[s]}\) in terms of the combinatorics of the forest.
