The authors investigate the notion of recognizing spaces for stable subgroups in finitely generated groups, focusing on whether the largest acylindrical action of a group on a hyperbolic space can serve as a universal recognizing space. It is known that for mapping class groups, right-angled Artin groups and more generally HHGs, the largest acylindrical action does recognize all stable subgroups. The main result of this note provides a counterexample: the authors construct a non-finitely presented, relatively hyperbolic group \( G = H * \mathbb{Z} \), where \( H \) satisfies strong Morse properties but is not acylindrically hyperbolic, such that the largest acylindrical action (on the relative Cayley graph) fails to recognize certain stable subgroups.\N\NThis construction shows that universal recognizing spaces do not always arise from the largest acylindrical actions, even if these exist. The paper raises further structural questions about the existence of recognizing spaces for stable subgroups in more general settings and whether acylindricity is a necessary property.
