The paper under review discusses the \textit{perspective abelian groups}, defined as those groups for which the isomorphic direct summands have a common complement. This notion is extracted from the widely context of perspective rings and modules as stated by \textit{S. Garg} et al. [J. Algebra 415, 1--12 (2014; Zbl 1308.16007)].\N\NThe paper explores various classes of these groups, providing several characterizations and examples. The authors prove in Proposition 4.1 that any divisible \(p\)-group is perspective only when it has finite rank. Moreover, in Proposition 4.3, they proved that finite \(p\)-groups are always perspective. As a slight generalization of this fact, it is shown in Proposition 4.6 that torsion-complete \(p\)-groups having finite Ulm-Kaplansky invariants are perspective too.\N\NIn the torsion-free case, Corollary 4.12 tells that a torsion-free divisible group is perspective exactly when it has finite rank. Likewise, Proposition 4.13 informs that the only free group that can be perspective is the group of integers \(\mathbb{Z}\). Besides, Proposition 4.14 asserts that all rational groups, say \(\mathbb{Q}\), are perspective. The works ends with interesting Examples 5.1-5.4.\N\NSome other closely related preliminary results for prespective modules are provided as well (see, for instance, Theorem 2.1).
