Connections between binary quadratic and certain binary cubic forms were first investigated by \textit{G. Eisenstein} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 27, 89--104 (1844; ERAM 027.0785cj)] and \textit{F. Arndt} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 53, 309--321 (1857; ERAM 053.1405cj)]. These investigations were taken up again after the groundbreaking work of \textit{Y. Ohno} [Am. J. Math. 119, No. 5, 1083--1094 (1997; Zbl 0893.11035)] conjectured a class number relation later proved by \textit{J. Nakagawa} [Invent. Math. 97, No. 2, 219--235 (1989; Zbl 0647.10018)]. In the present monograph, the author extends these results to certain quartic forms (these come up in counting quartic rings with given resolvent) and generalizes Nakagawa's results to forms with coefficients in number fields, the latter modulo certain identities that remain conjectural.
