The authors investigate uncountable groups \(G\) of cardinality \(\kappa\) in which all large subgroups (i.e., of cardinality \(\kappa\)) are nearly normal, or have uniformly bounded index in their normal closures. Under such assumptions, they characterize the behavior of the derived subgroup \(G'\), showing that \(|G' : X'|\) is finite for each large \(X \leq G\) (Theorem 2.1) and deducing structural constraints on \(G'\).\N\NThey further analyze the case where all large subgroups have index \(\leq k\) in their normal closure, proving that \(G'\) is small and \([G',G]\) is finite (Theorem 2.7) and that \(G'/N\) is either of prime exponent or divisible. Some connections with \(C_1^\kappa\)-groups and FC-groups are systematically explored.
