This paper introduces the directional Stockwell transform, a new mathematical tool created by merging the directional short-time Fourier transform with the ridgelet transform to enable the analysis of signals along specific orientations. The authors establish its fundamental theoretical framework by proving an extended Parseval's identity and a reconstruction formula, ensuring energy preservation and invertibility. They also demonstrate the continuity of both the transform and its corresponding synthesis operator on specially chosen test function spaces. Furthermore, the study significantly extends the applicability of the transform by developing a full distributional theory for it on the Lizorkin space of distributions.
