The authors suggest a new definition of the spectrum for nonlinear finitely continuous maps that reduces to the usual spectrum in the case of linear compact maps and is applicable to a wider class of maps compared with [\textit{M. Furi, M. Martelly, A. Vignoli}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. (4) 118, 229--294 (1978; Zbl 0409.47043)].
