The paper presents an engine that can be used to simulate insurance fraud network data. Firstly, conventional and emerging approaches to fraud detection are presented and discussed; within this context, the role of analytics in uncovering fraudulent activities is analyzed. Then, the simulated engine is proposed, providing an extensive explanation of the data generation process and describing the necessary steps to produce a realistic and representative insurance fraud network data set. Finally, the simulation engine's capabilities are exhibited by creating and exploring two distinct types of artificial data sets.
