Index type invariants of virtual knots are defined by counting the weighted sum over real crossing points. The main idea is to associate an index to each real crossing point of a virtual knot diagram such that this index satisfies several axioms. It was the author of this paper under review who first found that this index can be reused to refine the index. Based on this, the zero polynomial [\textit{M. Jeong}, J. Knot Theory Ramifications 25, No. 1, Article ID 1550078 (2016; Zbl 1337.57024)] and a transcendental function invariant of virtual knots [\textit{Z. Cheng}, J. Math. Soc. Japan 69, No. 4, 1583--1599 (2017; Zbl 1387.57022)] were introduced.\N\NIn the paper under review, the author introduces a new multivariable polynomial invariant of virtual knots. Similar to the transcendental function invariant mentioned above, the main idea of the definition is to define a sequence of indices by using the original index. The difference here is that the author considers the greatest common divisor of the indices of two chords and uses this to define the contribution from one chord to the other one. Several interesting applications of this new invariant are discussed.
