The authors provide new results concerning certain classes of infinite sums involving special functions by adopting the strategy previously discussed and employed in [\textit{P. Mali} et al., Eur. J. Phys. 43, No. 3, Article ID 035405, 10 p. (2022; Zbl 1522.81116); J. Math. Phys. 65, No. 3, Article ID 032104, 12 p. (2024; Zbl 1535.81110)]. Specifically, they consider basic one-dimensional quantum mechanical problems, compute the coefficients appearing in the expansion of suitably assigned wave functions in terms of the eigenfunctions associated with the problem, and then impose the normalization condition.\N\NIn particular, relying on spectral problems involving a half harmonic oscillator potential and an infinite potential well, the authors derive results on infinite sums involving generalized hypergeometric functions, associated Laguerre polynomials, and Bessel functions of the first kind. They also demonstrate that the method can be extended to classes of functions that are not regular wave functions, providing an example that leads to the evaluation of an infinite sum involving Struve functions of the first kind.\N\NIn addition, they discuss in detail the convergence of the evaluated infinite sums by applying various convergence tests. The authors thus highlight the advantages of the method used in this and the previously cited works in ensuring the convergence of the obtained infinite series, independently of the specific quantum mechanical problem considered and regardless of whether the sums can be calculated analytically or are challenging to prove convergent using standard convergence tests.
