The \textit{Liber augmenti et diminutionis}. A contribution to the history of medieval mathematics (Q6991502)

This is the first critical edition of the \textit{Liber augmenti et diminutionis}, a 12th-century Latin text resulting from a translation of an unknown Arabic original, whose author is known only as Abraham or Ibrahim. The probable translator is Gerard of Cremona. Divided into ten chapters, the text belongs to those presenting the science of computation.\N\NAfter a survey of the extant manuscripts, the Latin text is presented, followed by a French translation, and by a chapter devoted to a mathematical analysis and commentary. The main methods used to solve concretely phrased problems are the method of false position and the \textit{regula transversa}.
