Let \(\rho\in C^{\infty}({\mathbb R}^d\setminus\{0\})\) be a positive real-valued function satisfying \(\rho(t\xi)=t\rho(\xi)\) for \(t>0\), which is called a homogeneous distance function of degree one. They impose a surface condition on the unit sphere \(\Sigma_{\rho}\fallingdotseq\{\xi\in {\mathbb R}^d:\rho(\xi)=1\}\) as follows; \(\Sigma_{\rho}\) is of finite line type, i.e., each tangent line at each point on \(\Sigma_{\rho}\) has finite order of contact. They consider the quasiradial Bochner-Riesz operator \({\mathcal B}^{\delta}_{\rho}\) associated to \(\rho\) defined by \[ \widehat {{\mathcal B}^{\delta}_{\rho} f}(\xi)=(1-\rho(\xi))^{\delta}_+\widehat f (\xi), \quad \delta>0, \] where \(\widehat f (\xi)=\int_{{\mathbb R}^d} e^{-i\langle x,\xi\rangle} f(x) dx\) denotes the Fourier transform of \(f\). In this paper, they prove that if \(\delta>\max\{d|1/p-1/2|-1/2,(d-2)/4\}\) for \(p>1\), then \({\mathcal B}^{\delta}_{\rho}\) is bounded on \(L^p({\mathbb R}^d)\), which is the generalization of the Carleson-Sjölin theorem. Let \(\Omega_{\rho}\fallingdotseq\{\xi\in {\mathbb R}^d:\rho(\xi)\leq 1\}\) and \({\mathcal N}_{\Omega_{\rho}}= \)card\( (t \Omega_{\rho}\cap {\mathbb Z}^d)\). Then it is well known in number theory that \({\mathcal N}_{\Omega_{\rho}}\sim t^d |\Omega_{\rho}|\) as \(t\to\infty\) and, moreover, the error term \[ E_{\Omega_{\rho}}\fallingdotseq {\mathcal N}_{\Omega_{\rho}}- t^d |\Omega_{\rho}| \] is \(\mathcal O (t^{d-1})\). They observe that the \(d\)-dimensional cube contains larger number of lattice points than \(\Omega_{\rho}\) and also \(\Omega_{\rho}\) contains larger number of lattice points than the radial unit ball in \({\mathbb R}^d\). As a result, they use a decay estimate of the surface carried measure \(d\sigma\) on \(\Sigma_{\rho}\) and the refinement of the classical result due to \textit{E. Hlawka} [Monatsh. Math. 54, 1-36, 81-99 (1950; Zbl 0036.30902)] to obtain the improved result.
