A \(G_2\)-structure on a 7-manifold \(M\) is given by a positive 3-form \(\varphi\) and so defines a unique Riemannian metric \(g_{\varphi}\) and an orientation on \(M\). If the 3-form \(\varphi\) is parallel with respect to the Levi-Civita connection, or equivalently if \(\varphi\) is closed and co-closed, \((M, \varphi, g_{\varphi})\) is called a torsion-free \(G_2\)-manifold.\N\NA connection 1-form \(A\) on a Hermitian line bundle on a 7-manifold \((M, \varphi, g_{\varphi})\) endowed with a \(G_2\)-structure is called a \(G_2\)-instanton if its curvature 2-form \(F_A\) satisfies the condition \(F_A \wedge \star_{\varphi} \varphi =0\). If instead, \(F_A\) satisfies \N\[\NF_A \wedge \star_{\varphi} \varphi = \frac 1 6 F_A^3,\N\] \Nthe connection 1-form \(A\) is called in the literature a deformed \(G_2\)-instanton (or deformed Donaldson-Thomas connection).\N\NThe author constructs the first non-trivial examples of deformed \(G_2\)-instantons on torsion-free \(G_2\)-manifolds, where by `nontrivial' one means that the connection \(A\) is neither flat nor arises as pull-back from lower dimensional constructions. The examples of deformed \(G_2\)-instantons are constructed on \(\mathbb{R}^4 \times S^3\) endowed with the torsion free \(G_2\)-structure found by \textit{A. Brandhuber} et al. [Nucl. Phys., B 611, No. 1--3, 179--204 (2001; Zbl 0971.81071)] and on \(\mathbb{R}^+ \times S^3 \times S^3\) endowed with the Bryant-Salamon conical \(G_2\)-structure [\textit{R. L. Bryant} and \textit{S. M. Salamon}, Duke Math. J. 58, No. 3, 829--850 (1989; Zbl 0681.53021)].\N\NMoreover, the author studies the relation between deformed \(G_2\)-instantons and calibrated submanifolds, constructing an associative foliation of \(\mathbb{R}^4 \times S^3\) by \(\mathbb{R}^2 \times S^1\).
