      The authors investigate finite groups through the recently introduced concept of \textsf{CSS}-subgroups: a subgroup \( H \leq G \) is called \textit{CSS} if there exists a normal subgroup \( T \unlhd G \) such that \( G = HT \) and \( H \cap T \) is \textsf{SS}-quasinormal in \( G \). This notion properly contains both \(c\)-normal and \textit{CSS}-quasinormal subgroups as special cases.\N\N\NThe main result is the following:\N\NTheorem 3.4. Let \(\mathfrak{F}\) be a saturated formation containing \(\mathfrak{U}\) and let \(E\) be a normal subgroup of a group \(G\) such that \(G/E \in \mathfrak{F}\). For every non-cyclic Sylow \(p\)-subgroup \(P\) of \(E\) (or \(F^*(E)\)), if there exists a subgroup \(D\) of \(P\) with \(1 < |D| < |P|\) such that every subgroup of \(P\) with order \(|D|\), or of order \(4\) whenever \(|D| = 2\), is a \textit{CSS}-subgroup of \(G\), then \(G \in \mathfrak{F}\).\N\N\NThis result extends earlier theorems by \textit{Y. Wang} [J. Algebra 180, No. 3, 954--965 (1996; Zbl 0847.20010)], \textit{S. Li} et al. [J. Algebra 319, No. 10, 4275--4287 (2008; Zbl 1152.20019)] and others. Several corollaries recover classical supersolvability criteria under various embedding assumptions.
