Considering differential monomials \(M_j[f]=b_j f^{n_{0,j}}(f')^{n_{1,j}}\cdots(f^{(k)})^{n_{k,j}}\), resp.\ polynomials \(P[f]=\sum_{j=1}^l M_j[f]\), with small coefficients, recall the notions \(\gamma_{M_j}=\sum_{i=0}^k n_{i,j}\), \(\Gamma_{M_j}=\sum_{i=0}^k(i+1)n_{i,j}\), \(\gamma_p=\max\gamma_{M_j}\), \(\Gamma_P=\max\Gamma_{M_j}\) of degree and weight of \(M_j[f]\), resp.\ of \(P[f]\). Making use of additional notions \(\underline{\gamma}_P=\min\gamma_{M_j}\) and \(\gamma_P^\ast=\max\{\gamma_{M_j}|\gamma_{M_j}<\gamma_P\}\) and of the standard Nevanlinna theory, the following interesting result will be proved: If either \(\Gamma_{M_j}=\gamma_{M_j}\) for \(j=1,\ldots,l\) or \(\overline{N}\big(r,\frac{1}{f}\big)+\overline{N}(r,f)=S(r,f)\) and if \(P[f]=\sum_{j=1}^l M_j[f]\) is such that \(\gamma_P>\underline{\gamma}_P\geq 1\), then \(\Theta(a,P[f])\leqq\gamma_P^\ast/\gamma_P\) for any small target function \(a\not\equiv\infty\).
