The paper under review explores the recent groundbreaking work of Ellenberg, Satriano, and Zureick-Brown [\textit{J. S. Ellenberg} et al., Forum Math. Sigma 11, Paper No. e14, 54 p. (2023; Zbl 1525.11072)] on an extension of the Batyrev-Manin and Malle conjectures to the world of algebraic stacks. In particular, they have three main results:\N\N1) They confirm the ESZB conjecture for the projective line with three half-points. (This was done independently by Le Boudec.)\N\N2) They verify that the anticanonical height \(\mathcal{H}_{-K}\) on certain stacky curves has the Northcott property if and only if the curve's Euler characteristic is positive.\N\N3) They prove that the classical abc conjecture of Masser and Oesterle is equivalent to the Northcott property for \(\mathcal{H}_{-K}H^\delta\) on every proper smooth stacky curve with negative Euler characteristic and either has coarse space \(\mathbb{P}^1\) or is isomorphic to a smooth projective curve.\N\NA height function \(H\) on \(X\) satisfies the Northcott property if and only if for every positive real number \(B\), the number of rational points \(P\) of \(X\) satisfying \(H(P)\leq B\) is finite. In item 3), \(H\) refers to the usual Weil height function on \(\mathbb{P}^!\).
