The present paper utilizes representations of Banach lattices via nonstandard analysis. Results from nonstandard analysis are used to provide a simple proof of a theorem of \textit{B. de Pagter} and \textit{A. R. Schep} [J. Funct. Anal. 78, 31--55 (1988; Zbl 0651.47023)] describing the monotone property of the measure of noncompactness for operators \(0<S<T\) on Banach lattices and spectral properties including the monotonicity of the essential spectral radius in the case of AM-compact operators. The measure of noncompactness of a set is the infimum of the radii \(\delta\) such that the set can be covered by a finite number of balls of radius \(\delta\); for an operator, the measure of noncompactness is the measure of the noncompactness of the image of the unit ball. In the nonstandard setting, it is shown for example that the measure of noncompactness of a bounded operator is that same as the norm of the associated operator induced on the nonstandard representations. These types of properties for the nonstandard model are critical to establishing the above theorem and related results. An analysis of d-convergence (a net \(\{x_{\alpha} \}\) is said to d-converge to \(x\) if \(| x_{\alpha}-x| \wedge y\) norm converges to zero for each positive \(y\)) is presented with relationships to the measure of noncompactness. Here again, nonstandard analysis is exploited. A number of examples of d-convergence are presented.
