The paper is devoted to a higher dimensional generalization of the \(D_n\) Drinfeld-Sokolov integrable hierarchy. The author considers a 2-toroidal Lie algebra \({so}^\mathrm{tor}_{2n}\), i.e., a central extension of the tensor product of the orthogonal Lie algebra \({so}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})\) and the ring of Laurent polynomials of two (formal) variables endowed with Lie algebra structure. Based on the principal representation of the affine Lie algebra \({so}^{(1)}_{2n}\) in fermionic picture, one constructs a principal representation of \({so}^\mathrm{tor}_{2n}\). The latter is then used to build a \((2+1)\)-dimensional generalization of the \(D_n\) Drinfeld-Sokolov integrable hierarchy derived in Hirota bilinear form. That bilinear form is proved to be equivalent to a Lax representation. The author finds a Darboux transformation in order to obtain special solutions to the original Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy as well as to the considered generalization.\N\NThe paper will be of interest to experts in the theory of integrable systems
