Let a complex algebraic reductive group \(\mathbf{G}\) act on a complex smooth algebraic manifold \(\mathbf{X}\). \textit{È. B. Vinberg} [Funct. Anal. Appl. 20, 1--11 (1986; Zbl 0601.14038); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. No. 1, 1--13 (1986)] defined a notion of complexity of \(\mathbf{X}\) that measures how far \(\mathbf{X}\) is from being spherical. For a \(\mathbf{G}\)-invariant subvariety \(\Xi\) of the nilpotent cone \(\mathcal{N}(\mathfrak{g}^{\ast}) \subset \mathfrak{g}^{\ast}\), the authors [``Finite multiplicities beyond spherical pairs'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:2109.00204}] defined the notion of \(\Xi\)-spherical varieties, and the notion of \(\Xi\)-complexity of \(\mathbf{X}\), denoted \(c_{\Xi}(X)\), that measures how far \(\mathbf{X}\) is from being \(\Xi\)-spherical.\N\NIn this paper, the authors define a notion of \(\Xi\)-symplectic complexity of \(\mathbf{X}\). This notion generalizes the notion of complexity defined by Vinberg [loc. cit.]. They prove several properties of this notion, and relate it to the notion of \(\Xi\)-complexity defined in their earlier paper [loc. cit.] motivated by its relation with representation theory.
