Let \(B\) denote the open unit ball in \(\mathbb R^2\) and consider the \(p\)-Ginzburg-Landau energy functional \[ E_\varepsilon (u)=p^{-1}\int_B| \nabla u| ^p\,dx+ (4\varepsilon^p)^{-1}\int_B(1-| u| ^2)^2\,dx, \] where \(p>2\). This paper is devoted to the asymptotic analysis of minimizers of \(E_\varepsilon\) as \(\varepsilon\rightarrow 0\) over the class \(W=\{u(x)=f(r)x/| x| \in W^{1,p}(B,\mathbb R^2);\;f(1)=M,\;r=| x| \}\), where \(0<M<1\). The main result of the paper establishes that if \(\varepsilon>0\) is sufiiciently small and if \(u_\varepsilon\) is a minimizer of \(E_\varepsilon\), then there exists \(h>0\) not depending on \(\varepsilon\) such that \(Z_\varepsilon:=\{x\in B;\;| u_\varepsilon (x)| <M/2\}\subset B(0,h\varepsilon)\). The result extends a well-known property of \textit{F. Bethuel, H. Brezis} and \textit{F. Hélein} [``Ginzburg-Landau vortices'' (1994; Zbl 0802.35142)] corresponding to \(p=2\). The proof combines variational methods and adequate elliptic estimates.
