The author investigates the quasilinear second-order boundary value problem for the one-dimensio\-nal \(p\)-Laplacian equation \[ (| y'(x)| ^{p-2}y'(x))'=f(x,y(x),y'(x))\quad\text{in}\quad(-l,l) \] for \(p\geq2\) with the Dirichlet (\(y(-l)=y(l)=0\)), Neumann (\(y'(-l)=y'(l)=0\)) or Robin (\(y'(-l)-\sigma(y(-l))=y'(l)+\sigma(y(l))=0\)) boundary conditions. Assuming that the solution is a priori bounded, it is proved that the derivative of the solution is also a priori bounded provided the right-hand side \(f\) satisfies certain conditions. The paper is a continuation of the work by \textit{S. N. Bernstein} [Ann. Sci. École Norm. Sup. 29, 431--485 (1912; JFM 43.0460.01)] and \textit{A. Granas, R. B. Guenther} and \textit{J. W. Lee} [Rocky Mt. J. Math. 10, 35--58 (1980; Zbl 0476.34017)], where the semilinear case \(p=2\) was treated.
