Spectral properties of the operator \(L\) generated by the differential expression \(-\Delta-\alpha\text{grad div}\), \(\alpha >0\) on exterior domains \(\Omega\subset \mathbb R^n, \) \(n=2,3\) and Dirichlet boundary conditions are investigated. The obtained results allow to resolve the problems for the equation of equilibrium for esotheric bodies in terms of expansions on generalized eigenfunctions.
