In the present study the authors discuss bifurcation results for a semilinear Schrödinger problem of the following form: \[ -\Delta u+v(x)u=\lambda u-g(x)|u|^{p-1}u\quad \text{in }\mathbb{R}^N, u>0,\tag{1} \] where \(v\) and \(g\) are given functions satisfying some assumptions. It is shown that there exists a bifurcation branch of solutions for (1), when \(g(x)\) can possibly vanish except for a bounded domain \(\Omega\in\mathbb{R}\).
