This work aims primarily at demonstrating an analogue of Selberg's trace formula on the upper half-plane \textbf{H}\(_p^+\) on a \(p\)-adic field. The upper half-plane is a homogeneous space relative to the action of the group \(G\) as a group of fractional-linear transformations on \textbf{H}\(_p^+\). Let \(\Gamma\) be a non-trivial discontinuous subgroup of \(G\) only consisting of elements conjugate to diagonal matrices. The associated fundamental domain is then constructed in \textbf{H}\(_p^+\). For \(\Gamma\) such that the quotient space is compact, the author considers non-negative definite Hilbert-Schmidt integral operators and proves a trace formula that describes the relation of the spectra of the operators to the lengths of primitive geodesics. Further, the author constructs Markov processes on the fundamental domain to whose transition operators the trace formula is applied, and proves a \(p\)-adic analogue of the prime geodesic theorem, and finally derives a function identity for the Ihara zeta function.
